‘Death by Design’ called witty and fun

PORTLAND — Good Theater presents the East Coast premiere of a new comedy with murder: “Death by Design” by Rob Urbinati. The play is set in the English country home of Edward (a playwright) and Sorel (an actress) Bennett. Their most recent London West End offering has opened to less than stellar reviews and the warring couple retreat to their country residence. Several guests arrive unannounced creating havoc. When a murder is committed, it is up to the plucky maid to solve the crime.

“Death by Design” is very much in the style of Noel Coward meets Agatha Christie. The script is witty, fun and filled with great characters making for a delightful evening or afternoon of theater. Directed by Brian P. Allen and starring Rob Cameron, Abigail Killeen, Matthew Delamater, Janice Gardner, Paul Haley, Kat Moraros, Susan Reilly and Benjamin Row.

Performances run from Jan. 30 to Feb. 24 and times are 7 p.m. Wednesdays ($15), 7 p.m. Thursdays ($20), 7:30 p.m. Fridays ($20), 7:30 p.m. Saturday 7:30, and 2 p.m. Sundays ($25) with a special added matinee at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 16 ($20) and are held at the St. Lawrence Arts Center, 76 Congress Street.
