DECA students assist in career fair

SOUTH PARIS — Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School’s DECA members helped the Oxford Hills Middle School guidance counselors put on the annual career fair held at the middle school in April. The purpose of the fair is to teach students about career choices. Presenters from around Maine came to talk about their occupations, as well as the benefits and downsides of their jobs.

Chairpersons Senica Roussel and Nicholas Michaud began their preparation by determining the theme for this year’s fair, “You’re The Author Of Your Own Life’s Story.” They worked together to create packets, which they mailed to the 39 presenters. Along with several other DECA members, 550 schedules were made out with five choices each for all of the middle school students.

DECA member’s responsibilities on the day of the fair included: checking in presenters, escorting them to their assigned areas, helping students find presenters, editing student’s schedules and delivering thank you certificates to the presenters.

Students from the Marketing/DECA program, along with students and teachers from other technical programs, including Auto Collision and Repair, Diversified Occupations, Business Education and Graphics Designs, made presentations about careers connected to their programs.
