BETHEL — Christopher DeCato of Bethel has announced his candidacy for Oxford County treasurer.
A graduate of Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School in Paris and Thomas College in Waterville, DeCato has a bachelor’s degree in business education. He has been the treasurer for the Truman Corp. in Oxford, more commonly known as Turn Key Homes of Maine, for the past decade.
Prior to his days at the Truman Corp., he spent 15 years in the petroleum industry, working in wholesale marketing for a gasoline distributor. Both of these professional endeavors have provided experience projecting budget numbers and ensuring the numbers fell within projections, according to a campaign statement.
DeCato is co-leader of the local Boy Scout troop, has been an active member of the Community Forest project in Bethel and for the past three years has been his daughters’ coach for the local T-ball team.
He believes in the need to put the power of politics back in voters’ hands, and that starts with electing qualified candidates that know, understand and listen to the people of Maine.
According to a written statement from the campaign, DeCato’s experience as a treasurer for a local company, and his lifelong knowledge of the area, is an asset that will enable him to effectively, and efficiently, serve as Oxford County treasurer.
DeCato’s father, Danny, was a second generation, longtime employee of A.C Lawrence in South Paris. His mother, Dana, provided child care services in the Oxford Hills area for 30 years and was also the librarian at the Oxford Hills Junior High School in Paris in the 1970s.
DeCato was born and raised in Oxford and resides with his wife, Sarah, and two daughters in Bethel.
