Democratic chairman addresses local group

RUMFORD – The Oxford County Democrats met on May 11 at the Eagles Hall. State Party Chairman Ben Dudley of Portland was the speaker.

Dudley discussed the Democratic convention on June 2 and 3, noting that registration is breaking records for a nonpresidential year. The keynote speech by U.S. Sen. Russ Feingold and the Democratic Women’s Lobby breakfast featuring Chellie Pingree of Common Cause, as well as an array of training sessions preceding the conference on Friday, appear to be factors.

Dudley encouraged delegates who have not registered to do so online at www.mainedems.org. He announced that others wishing to attend the convention may do so as guests or by contacting County Chairwoman Cathy Newell to see if there are unfilled delegate slots that they may fill.

Updates on the activities of the county Democrats were presented by Treasurer Mike Broderick and Newell. Plans are in the works for the opening of the Norway office on Main Street and for summer candidate events. Progress reports on the local campaigns for legislative and county office were given.

To become involved with the activities of the Oxford County Democrats or with individual campaigns, contact Newell at 875-2116 or visit www.oxforddems.org.
