I am concerned about Lewiston’s water woes. After all the years of using chlorine in the water to combat bacteria, we now find out that our supposedly drinkable water might be giving us cancer. So the water department has changed the cleaning component to chloramine, which cleans the water and also the pipes.
Now my neighbors and I have rusty brown water to drink. Of course, we are not drinking it. We have to buy water by the gallon (on top of our regular water bills). What are we to do when our water is unsafe to drink but the government does not require the city to warn us about it unless it’s been in that condition for 12 months?
We, as Lewiston taxpayers, deserve to know when something is going on and, above all, we deserve safe drinking water.
