Deterrent to wind

The recent decision by the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission to deny the windpower projects planned for Black Nubble/Redington mountains restored my faith in the regulatory process of Maine. The commission was able to rise above the rhetoric offered by the project’s sponsors, and take note of the many comments offered by opponents of the project, even though they were relegated to inconspicuous areas of the staff report.

The importance of preserving the protected mountaintops was reaffirmed by the decision, and should be a deterrent to future projects in sensitive areas planned by outside interests.
