Dinner to raise funds for Vietnamese students

LEWISTON – A dinner to raise money for a program that helps Vietnamese students attend U.S. colleges will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Bates College’s Benjamin Mays Center, 75 Russell St.

Admission to the buffet dinner benefiting VietAbroader, a program founded by two Bates juniors, costs $10 per person. Restaurants catering the all-you-can-eat event include Cleopatra, serving East African cuisine; DaVinci’s Eatery, an Italian restaurant; Fishbones American Grill, a seafood restaurant; Nezinscot Farm, serving organic foods and desserts; and Wei-Li, a Chinese restaurant.

Khoa Pham and Trang Nguyen founded VietAbroader, an organization that helps high school students in Vietnam apply to and prepare for U.S. colleges. The organization’s programs include a summer conference in Vietnam designed to motivate Vietnamese students and sharpen their competitive edge. The Bates fundraiser will support this year’s conference.

Sponsoring the event is Sangai Asia, a student group that promotes Asian and Asian-American awareness, identity and fellowship at Bates and in the community. For further information contact Kevin Tsan at 323-684-5263, Mai Hoang at 617-331-3523 or Iris Lim at 909-569-2863.
