Dismantling guns, driving don’t mix

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) – A man trying to dismantle his gun while driving on a busy road accidentally shot himself in the thigh and caused an accident, police said.

Investigators say 22-year-old Robert Drown of Webster was driving on Loudon Road when he shot himself Wednesday while trying to place his gun in a safety mode. He said he didn’t know the gun was loaded. He collided with a minivan and a convenience store sign and came out of his SUV covered in blood.

Police said Drown was lucky that he injured himself near a fire station and with an off-duty paramedic nearby who came to his aid.

Drown was rushed into surgery to repair the gunshot wound. He was hospitalized in fair condition on Wednesday night.

Investigators said the incident was a case of poor judgment.
