Dixfield set to discuss comprehensive plan

DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Comprehensive Plan Committee will meet for conversation, coffee and dessert to discuss the proposed comprehensive plan at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 4, in the Dirigo High School cafeteria.

The committee has, over the past 16 months, been preparing a new comprehensive plan.

The last plan was developed in 1989. The effort included a public visioning session in April 2005. The committee used the results of that session to develop the new plan, which suggests the general direction of the town over the next 10 to 15 years.

The plan includes an inventory and analysis section that presents information about the town and region. Such areas as population, economic conditions, affordable housing and natural resources are discussed in the inventory and analysis section.

Part II of the plan presents a series of recommendations that address concerns raised at the April 2005 meeting and other needs of the town. That section also includes a future land use plan that plots where various type of new development might be located in the future.

Committee Chairman David Harvey said, “I hope people will come and hear about the draft plan, offer their ideas and help fine tune the final product.” When finalized, the plan will be brought before town meeting for a vote.

Copies of the draft comprehensive plan are available at the town office.
