Don E. Douglas
1929 – 2010
AUBURN — Don E. Douglas, 80, a resident of Parillo Street in Lisbon Falls, died Monday, March 22, at The Hospice House after a long illness, just three days after the passing of his beloved wife of 51 years, Mary F. Douglas, who died Friday, March 19.
He was born Dec. 25, 1929, in Lisbon Falls, the son of Lloyd E. and Jennie (Coombs) Douglas. He was educated in local schools and then went on to proudly serve four years in the U.S. Navy as a sonar man. He then went on to graduate from the University of Maine at Orono with a bachelor of science in mechanical engineering.
He worked for a number of companies as a process engineer and in quality control. G.E. AIRL and the Summit of Mt. Washington, Raytheon, Honeywell, Maine Research, Maine Electronics and finally as collections manager of The Lisbon Community Credit Union.
He was a member of The Lisbon Advisory Board for a number of years, the Masonic Lodge and was also a member of Lisbon Falls United Methodist Church. He enjoyed sports and played football, baseball and ice hockey in high school and football for the University of Maine. In his later years, he attempted to play a decent game of golf and enjoyed 10-pin bowling.
Survivors include two sons, James J. Douglas and his wife, Amie Joseph, of Falmouth and Brian L. and his wife, Deborah Douglas, of North Carolina; three daughters, Laurie and her husband, Mark Polunci, of Monument, Colo., Lynn and her husband, Paul Bolduc, of Dover, N.H., and Jennifer and her husband, Randy Jensen, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 15 grandchildren.
