Donald G. Michaud


ATHENS, GREECE – Staff Sgt. Donald G. Michaud, 32, of Biddeford, was reported missing on Sept. 9, 1978, along with two companions. Their remains were recovered by the Greek government, from an underwater cavern at the Bay of Vouliagmeni, southeast of Athens, Greece, after drowning when they were drawn into the cavern by severe water currents.

He was born in Biddeford, Aug. 8, 1946, a son of Patrick and Pearl Levesque Michaud. He was educated in Biddeford schools, graduating from Biddeford High School. He enlisted and served 12 years with the U.S. Air Force until his death in 1978.

After his death, his wife, Rosemary Cunningham Michaud, died Sept. 28, 1985; his mother, Pearl Michaud, died April 5, 2005; and his daughter, Yuni Michaud, died July 4, 2006.

Surviving are one son, Robert T. Michaud of Lewiston; one daughter, Katherine Michaud Gagnon Jr. of Poland; two grandchildren, Amanda Gagnon and Roger Gagnon III of Poland; his father, Patrick Michaud of Biddeford; two brothers, Richard Michaud and his wife, Noella Boutin Michaud, of Waterboro, and Raymond Michaud of South Portland; one sister, Rachel Michaud of Scarborough; and several nieces and nephews.
