Donald T. Soiett


AUGUSTA – Donald T. Soiett, 78, passed away on April 20, at MaineGeneral Medical Center.

He was born in Lynn, Mass., on Dec. 21, 1927. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1949. He traveled the world. He was a member of the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1987. He moved to West Gardiner in 1949, when he met and married Dona Lavoie.

After he retired from the Navy, he worked for AMHI food services for close to 40 years. He then worked for the town of West Gardiner at the transfer station with his wife. He also enjoyed raising cattle and farming. He was an active member of the Morning Star Lodge, Ancient Brothers Lodge, York Rights, and the Kora Shrine Temple.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years; six children, Dana and his wife, Debbie, of Orange, Texas, Diane Marcotte and her husband, George, of West Gardiner, Dan and his wife, Diana, of West Gardiner, Dawn Sevigny and her husband, Bruce of West Gardiner, Darren and his fianc, Denise of West Gardiner and Jeremy and his wife, Debbie, of West Gardiner; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
