MAINE EGG FARMERS MAKE AN EGG-STRORDINARY DONATION OF 108,000 EGGS TO GOOD SHEPARD FOOD BANK
Maine Farmers to Donate More Than 261,720 in New England This Easter
(Lewiston, ME) March 30, 2010 —Maine egg farmers are giving the Easter Bunny something to hop about as Radlo Foods and Dorothy Egg Farms prepare to donate more than 108,000 fresh, brown eggs from New England to Good Shepard Food Bank on Wednesday, March 31 at 10:00 a.m. Approximately 13.3 percent of Mainers live below or at federal poverty level and may be experiencing hunger.
“Helping neighboring families in need is of the utmost importance to our industry,” said David Radlo, President and CEO of Radlo Foods.
For the third year in a row, United Egg Producers and Feeding America are teaming up in the fight against hunger and local egg farmers across America are dropping off truckloads of much needed protein to local food banks just in time for Easter. The partnership here in Maine and throughout the nation will help feed the nearly 49 million men, women and children in America who are at risk of hunger.
“We’re proud to offer our help and support when our community needs it now more than ever,” said Julia Lough of Dorothy Egg Farms.
“Good Shepard Food Bank salutes Radlo Foods and Dorothy Egg Farms for joining together to help address the issue of hunger in Maine,” said Rick Small, Executive Director at the food bank. “This extremely generous donation of eggs will guarantee a great source of protein for families in need – and especially children. We are truly grateful.”
Radlo Foods and Dorothy Egg Farms will also donate another 153,720 eggs to food banks across New England in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island.
In coordination with Feeding America – the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, egg farmers nationwide will be donating more than 12 million eggs to help make sure America’s food banks are well stocked with nutrient-dense eggs. Radlo Foods and Dorothy Egg Farms joined with other egg farmers in the nation and donated 261,720 fresh brown eggs to New England families.
