Dorcas L. Tofsted
1932 – 2010
VENTURA, Calif. — Dorcas L. Tofsted, 77, passed away peacefully on the morning of March 30. She had recently battled with cancer.
She was born Sept. 18, 1932, to David and Ella Leonard in Lewiston. She graduated from Edward Little High School in Auburn, at the age of 16 in 1949. She completed nursing school at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston.
She moved to the San Jose area in 1957, and married her husband, Henry Tofsted in 1963. She worked at Stanford Hospital, San Jose Hospital, worked for several cardiologists, and ended her career as an assistant director of nursing in Los Gatos, Calif.
She and Henry donated much of their time and energies to the YMCA in Cupertino, Calif. She was also involved in the Sunnyvale Community Theatre making costumes for plays and the San Jose Historical Museum restoring vintage gowns.
In early 1998, she moved to Oxnard, Calif., where she worked for Meals on Wheels in Ventura, Calif.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Walsh and her husband, Daniel, of Redondo Beach, Calif.; son, Gregory Tofsted of Oxnard, Calif.; daughter, Bonnie L. Tofsted of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; sisters, Aradine Tardy of Potomac, Md., Miriam Demro of Chicago Heights, Ill., Lois Roberts of Martinsburg, W.Va., Eunice Rockwood of Centerville, Md., and Sally Imler of Corapolis, Pa.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and cat, Sir Lance of Oxnard, Calif.
She was predeceased by her husband, Henry R. Tofsted; and daughter, Ruth Ellen Deese.
