Doreen Plavin


SUNRISE, Fla. – Doreen H. Plavin passed away suddenly in Sunrise, Fla., on Sunday, Jan. 14.

She was born in Berlin, N.H., on March 28, 1936, to Gwenith and Saul Plavin. She moved to Lewiston at a young age. She was a graduate of Lewiston High School and Bryant College in Providence, R.I.

She taught for many years at Bliss College in Lewiston and Mid-State Business College in Auburn. Throughout her many years as an educator, she was able to impact many lives; both on a personal and professional level.

In 1981, she began a lengthy career at the Lewiston Sun Journal serving in a number of capacities. Even after her move to South Florida in 2003, she still remained in contact with friends and associates at the newspaper.

She was a member of Temple Shalom in Auburn.

She is survived by her brother, Morey Plavin, and wife, Barbara, of Plantation, Fla.; her nephew, Dr. Stanford Plavin, and wife, Tally, of Dunwoody, Ga.; her niece, Lisa Mansfield, and husband, John, of Peabody, Mass.; great-nephew, Shane Plavin; great-niece, Alexandra Plavin; and many cousins. Her friendly manner and graciousness will be deeply missed.
