Dorothy Darling Gatchell
1935 – 2010
LEWISTON — Dorothy Darling Gatchell, 74, of Gamage Avenue, Auburn, died Monday, March 22, after a sudden illness at Central Maine Medical Center.
She was born in Lewiston, July 31, 1935, a daughter of the late Vinton Gatchell and Isabell Sirois. She was educated in local schools and graduated from Edward Little High School. She then went on to attend Alderson Broaddus Collage in West Virginia, and then graduated from University of Maine at Farmington.
She taught in the Auburn schools for many years. She enjoyed being a story teller and was known for portraying Mother Goose. She was involved with Readers Theater and was also very involved with the Auburn Public Library. She was a member of the West Auburn Congregational Church.
She leaves a son, Mark McGowan of Auburn; an aunt, Peggy Mills of Farmington; seven nieces; and a nephew.
She was predeceased by a sister, Diane Thurston; and a brother, Edward Gatchell.
