I am a senior citizen with a 4-year-old car. If the auto repair tax goes into effect, my mechanic is going to have to raise his rate to cover the cost of collecting it — double whammy.
Instead of having repairs done in Maine, I will spend the repair tax on gas and tolls to go visit my family in New Hampshire and get repairs done there. Family accommodations are free.
While waiting for my car to be fixed, I will then be spending my vacation money in that state instead of Maine, where I would prefer to do so.
