E. Irene Parke
1917 – 2010
LEWISTON — E. Irene Parker, 92, formerly of 141 Gamage Ave., Auburn, passed away Saturday, March 13, at Montello Manor.
Born in Lewiston on April 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Evelyn (Gordon) Edwards. She attended local schools and received her teaching degree from Bates College.
Irene married the love of her life, the late C. Vernon Parker on June 21, 1947, and together they began their family.
She taught at Webster and Walton Schools in Auburn during her 36 year teaching career, retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Assoc. and the Maine Educators Assoc.
Irene was an avid reader and in later years enjoyed knitting. She loved her grandchildren dearly, wishing that they would never grow up. She will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, but those who knew her best will never forget her use of notes.
Irene is survived by her son, James Parker and wife, Sandra; daughter in-law, Ann Parker, granddaughter, Ashley Goulet; grandsons, Graham, Gregory and Jason Parker; sister-in-law, Elaine Lafond; niece, Sherry Hesch; and dear friend, Kay Hewison.
Irene was predeceased by her brother, Gordon; husband, Vern, in 1989; and a son, William, in 2009.
A special thank you to the staff of Montello manor for the loving care that was taken of Irene over the past 18 months.
