FAIRFAX, Va. — Eddiemae (Phares) Wagg, 84, of Fairfax, Va. passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2017.She was born on Aug. 5, 1933 in McAllen, TX, a daughter of the late E.B and May (Young) Phares. She was raised and schooled in McAllen by a working widowed mother; she was active in school and church activities, especially band and summer travel.

Pursuing higher education, she graduated from Texas A&I at Kingsville, Texas and obtained a master’s in special education at Southwest State Teacher’s College in San Marcos, TX.

Eddiemae’s life centered on family, teaching, and travel. Her teaching career began in the oil town of Andrews, TX and ended in Virginia with teaching efforts in Germany, Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, and Missouri as she raised two sons and accompanied her husband in his military assignments.

An avid traveler, Eddiemae’s passport listed trips to Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, England, Scotland, Russia, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Israel, Syria, Holland, Belgium, Egypt, Mexico, and Canada. Nine years in Germany and travel throughout most of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, enabled Eddiemae to expand her teaching ability and make numerous lifelong friends.

Married to a career Army officer, Eddiemae devoted many hours to staff events, projects, and unit activities. For instance, at Fort Knox, Ky., she organized a Live Wires Group for widowed senior citizens and arranged local trips for entertainment, dining, and cultural exposure. She was named Fort Knox’s Army Community Services Volunteer of the Year in 1973.

Eddiemae is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert A. Wagg Jr.; two sons, Robert Wagg III and David Wagg; and two grandchildren, Emily and Dylan Wagg.
