FERNANDINA BEACH, Fla. — Edward A. Cantwell, 81, of Fernandina Beach, Fla., passed away on Friday, April 30, at Quality Health Care of Fernandina Beach.
He was born in Manchester, N.H. He had resided in Stuart, Fla., and Summerville, S.C., before joining his daughter and son-in-law in Fernandina in 2007. He was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. He had worked for a number of years at KLH Stereo, general manager with Singer Sewing Machine Co., the BASS Shoe Co. of Wilton, Cantwell Oil Company of Belfast, probation and parole officer and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1991.
Baptist by faith, he enjoyed his leisure hours fishing, hunting and most recently rides on the beaches of Fernandina.
He was a U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He leaves behind his children, Pamela Twombly (Kevin), Stuart, Fla., Jeffrey Cantwell (Terri), Lake Placid, Fla., and Lisa Downey (Michael), Fernandina Beach, Fla.; a brother, Bruce Cantwell, Wolfeboro, N.H.; a sister, Janet Cantwell, Manchester, N.H.; and nine grandchildren, Steven Simard, William Simard, Katie Twombly, Peter Twombly, Bryan Twombly, Edward Downey, Shannon Downey, Scott and Paul Cantwell.
He was predeceased his wife of 45 years, Anne Frances Coffin Cantwell, who passed away May 2000; and granddaughter, Nathalie Twombly.
