AUBURN — The Edward Little Speech & Debate team is celebrating a successful competition season by presenting a Speech Showcase performance at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 7, in Edward Little High School’s chorus room. Students will perform speeches, poetry, excerpts from fiction and congressional debate speeches that they have perfected at tournaments this year.
Tickets may be purchased at the door. Adult admission is $5, students $3, with a $15 maximum for families.
The Edward Little team placed second overall in speech events at the Maine Forensic Association State Finals in February. Named state champions in their events were sophomore Alia Abdulahi, a double winner in oratorical declamation and poetry; Jordan Richmond in humorous interpretation and Magenta Silberman in prose reading.
Six Edward Little students qualified to attend the National Catholic Forensic League tournament in Washington, D.C. and two students qualified to attend the National Forensic League tournament in Dallas.
Fundraising is underway to cover the travel costs for the National tournaments. In addition to the Speech Showcase performance, the team is selling auto and home first aid kits for $10 and baking Carla’s Coffee Cakes for Mother’s Day for $15. The team is also conducting a bottle drive with CLYNK, where participants fill up special bottle bags to return at their convenience to Hannaford stores. Donations can be made on the fundraising website www.giveyouthavoice.org and directly to Edward Little High School.
