Elderly woman found OK outside

MERRIMACK, N.H. (AP) – An elderly woman who had been missing in frigid temperatures was found alive, and apparently OK, Thursday.

“We were very fortunate,” said police Capt. Mark Doyle, after Delia Schrepfer, 88, was found by a resident.

He said the resident was alerted to the disappearance by an automated call that police made to neighbors who lived within two miles of the woman’s home. “Several residents walked out behind their condo and found the woman,” he said. “It looked like she had fallen over a little bit of a berm and down a ravine.”

Police are not sure if Schrepfer was out overnight, but they know she was out in the cold – wearing a sweater, nightgown and sneakers – for at least 3 hours on Thursday, Doyle said. The temperature was in the teens, he said.

He said the woman was coherent and speaking to rescuers. She was being checked out at a hospital.

Schrepfer was reported missing around 9:30 a.m. Thursday, when she did not meet her son-in-law for an appointment. She was found around 1 p.m.
