Elinor M. Hill


Gorham – Elinor Marie Hill passed away on Jan. 16, at the Gorham House.

She was born in Lewiston, on April 16, 1924, the daughter of the late Sadie Jacobs Whiting and Arthur Edward Whiting. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1942, and attended Bliss Business College in Lewiston.

She was employed at the First National Bank of Lewiston, the Portland National Bank in Portland and the former Osteopathic Hospital of Maine in Portland, from which she retired in 1979. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and the Immanuel Baptist Church in Portland.

On July 3, 1951, she married her husband, Franklin Scott Hill, and they were married 48 years until his death Nov. 10, 1999. They had two daughters, Cynthia and Stephanie.

She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Roy, and her husband, Daniel, of Sanford and their children, Michael Roy of Brighton, Mass., and Miranda Roy of Providence, R.I., and Stephanie Fitzwilliam, and her husband, Jeffrey and their son, Kyle Fitzwilliam, all of Gorham; her brother, Richard Whiting, and his wife, Elaine, of Spruce Head; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Alice Burdin; brothers, Adelbert and Raymond Whiting; and granddaughter, April Marie Roy.
