TROY, Mich. — Elizabeth Wright Jonitis, born in 1921, died on Dec. 20, 2009, in her 88th year, after a short illness.
She was married for 61 years to Dr. Peter P. Jonitis, who died in 2007. She was a longtime resident of Lewiston and had been very active in the community. She enjoyed her work at the Lewiston Adult Education Center, where more than 100 colleagues and students gathered to bide her farewell.
She attended Earlham College, completing an undergraduate degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Later she earned a master of special education at Temple University. She was a birthright member of the Society of Friends and was a live long activist for issues of social justice.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Karen Rhoda (Don Rhoda); grandsons, Douglas Ratliff (Anne Ratliff), Brian Ratliff (Elaine Shih), Michael Jonitis and Marc Jonitis; and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her son, Peter P. Jonitis Jr.
