Ellis describes proposed peace legislation

FARMINGTON – Lynn Ellis of Wilton spoke to residents at the University of Maine at Farmington on May 9 about proposed legislation to create a U.S. Department of Peace and Nonviolence.

She invited everyone to consider joining the Friday, May 12, call-in day to legislators to urge representatives to co-sponsor the bills: H.R. 3760 and S. 1756.

Ellis, co-coordinator of the Maine Campaign for the Department of Peace, described the work the department would be assigned. In the U.S., it would develop policies and allocate resources to effectively reduce the levels of domestic violence, gang violence, child abuse and various other forms of societal discord.
