Emma ‘Arline’ Waite
1918 – 2010
FARMINGTON — Emma “Arline” Waite, 92, of Vienna, died Wednesday, April 7, at the Sandy River Center for Nursing Care after a battle with cancer.
She was born March 23, 1918, in Vienna, the daughter of Eugene and Lillian (Knowlton) Waite. She was named after her grandmother, Emma Knowlton, but she always went by the name, Arline.
She attended Bliss College in Lewiston, where she took a business course. She worked for many years at the Farmington Farmer’s Union as a bookkeeper until her retirement.
Arline was a loving caregiver to her parents over the years and also was like a second mother to her nieces and nephews. Although she never married, she was always ready to lend a helping hand.
She had wonderful dry sense of humor that people enjoyed. She was a 60-year member of the Mill Stream Grange and served as the past master in 1964 and 1965. She joined Vernon Valley Chapter 68 Order of the Eastern Star in 1956. She was Worthy Matron in 1964, 1970 and 1991. She remained active until the late 1990s.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Norman; and sister, Pauline.
