Empire Grove hosting 173rd campmeeting


EAST POLAND – The Empire Grove United Methodist Campmeeting Association is celebrating its 173rd campmeeting on July 28 through Aug. 5. The theme will be “A Charge to Keep.”

Many activities are planned for adults and children, including volleyball, softball, a hay ride, bean supper, bike parade, campground train rides, crafts, communion, Bible studies and Olympics.

The two Sunday services will be held at 11 a.m. There will be evening services each night at 7 p.m. preceded by a 6:30 songfest led by Mitchell Thomas.

The worship leader for the evening services will be the Rev. Desmond Parker of Wilton United Methodist Church.

There will be an indoor yard sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 4, to benefit the campground.

The program directors are the Rev. Stuart and Penny Price. Assistant directors are Howard and Debbie Gary.

The Empire Grove Campmeeting is located on Empire Road in East Poland. The public is welcome. For more information, contact Howard Gary, camp manager, at 998-3676.

Vesper services will continue in the chapel each Sunday at 7 p.m. through Sept. 2.
