Employees raising money for Walker family

SCARBOROUGH – Employees of the Army Barracks store at Payne Plaza are raising money to help the family of James Walker, who was shot to death at the chain’s Conway, N.H., store in an apparent robbery attempt Monday.

His wife, Tessa, manages the Scarborough store.

Alicia Lavoie had just spent two weeks working in the Conway store alongside James Walker. The last time she saw him was Sunday, the day before the shootings, she said.

“He is wonderful. He’s a great guy. Always joking around. He knows his customers,” she said.

Other store employees were too upset to talk about his death, but have begun raising money to help the Walker family, which includes a 1-year-old son and Walker’s 9-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.

Anyone interested in making a donation is asked to call the Payne Plaza store at 885-0680.
