LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library is partnering with the Sun Journal in an effort to solve the "Mystery of the Unknown Buildings" in its Gridley Barrows Collection.

gridley photo, 54

Back in 1999, when Lewiston architect and local historian Gridley Barrows died, the LPL received his collection of 5,244 photographic slides and more than 600 prints depicting local buildings and architectural features.

The goal is to preserve them and make them available to the public. Most have been identified over the years, but many remain a mystery.

This feature will appear weekly in the Sun Journal. If you are the first to correctly identify a photo, you will be recognized by the Sun Journal and on the LPL's website, www.LPLonline.org. Eventually, the Gridley Barrows photographic collection will make its way onto the library's website.

If you think you recognize this photo, e-mail the library at LPLreference@lewistonmaine.gov or send a note to Reference Department, Lewiston Public Library 200 Lisbon St., Lewiston, ME 04240.
