NORWAY – Ernest Harold Macie, 91, of Otisfield went home to be with his Lord Sunday, July 15, at Norway Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Nov. 24, 1915, in Irasburg, Vt., the son of George and Rose (Sanville) Macie. He was a jack-of-all-trades and master of the same including farmer, Vermont state road commissioner, Ethan Allen furniture employee, logger, bobbin mill worker, die setter at Irwin Toys and so much more. He married Tona Chaffee on Dec. 24, 1971.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an avid dog lover and is survived by his beloved dogs, Oscar, Taylor and Willie, as well as being predeceased by Rocky, Zorro and Buttons. He loved hunting, camping and fishing. His motto was always “Do with what you have or make do with what you can.”

He is survived by his wife of Otisfield; his daughters, Earline Barwick of Florida, Leona Hodgdon of Vermont, Marie Sawyer, and her companion, Skip, of West Paris and Betty Chaffee and Rachel Brousseau of Otisfield; his sons, Wayne Macie, and his wife, Irene, of Florida and Rudy Macie, and his wife, Mary, of Mechanic Falls; his son-in-law, Charles Sawyer, and his companion, Millie, of Bristol; grandchildren, Douglas Royer, and his wife, Candy, of Florida, Eric Royer of Florida, Terry Hodgdon, and his wife, Gisele, of Vermont, Rebecca Laramee, and her husband, Leonard, of Vermont, Mona Arruda, and her husband, Jim, of Vermont, Greg Hodgdon, and his companion, Lora, of Vermont, Cindy Graham, and her husband, David, of Florida, Sheila Letourneau, and her husband, Tim, of Auburn, Sandy Smith, and her companion, Mike Dailey, of Norway, Angela Smith, and her husband, Ben, of Warren, Lisa May, and her husband, Jason, of New Hampshire, James Macie, and his fiancee, Kelly, of Auburn and Charles Sawyer Jr. of Bristol; 26 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two grandsons, Timothy Hodgdon and Charlie Royer; one granddaughter, Brenda Hodgdon; brothers, Raymond, Leo, Ralph, Victor and Gordon; and sisters, Elizabeth and Theresa.
