Esther Thibodeau

AUBURN – Esther Thibodeau, 99, formerly of Augusta, passed away Monday, Jan. 8, at The Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice.

She was born in Milo on March 2, 1907, the daughter of Edmond O. and Flavie Thibodeau. She was a 1925 graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Van Buren, and attended Aroostook State Normal School in Presque Isle. She taught school in Van Buren.

In 1935, she accepted a position with the Maine State Liquor Commission in Augusta, where she worked for 41 years, retiring as office manager in 1976. She enjoyed family gatherings. Her family was her pride and joy. She also enjoyed traveling, dancing, playing the piano and the organ and writing songs.

She treasured her friends and kept in touch with them over the years. She was a charter member of the Maine State Employees Association and its first secretary. She also belonged to the Maine Association of Retirees, and was a member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Lewiston.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Pauline Harvey of Auburn; two brothers, Edrick J. Thibodeau, and wife, Catherine, of Lewiston and Henry C. Thibodeau, and wife, Joan, of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by her parents; four sisters, Lottie Violette, Myrtle Thibodeau, Dorothy Rioux and Lucille Sampson; and six brothers, Romeo E. Thibodeau, Alfred J. Thibodeau, Ludger Thibodeau, Roger C. Thibodeau, Lorn E. Thibodeau and Richard R. Thibodeau.

Her family would like to thank all the caregivers at the Hospice House and Russell Park for the loving care and attention they gave Esther during her last years.
