LEWISTON — Ethelyn B.“Chickie” Marson Gorey, 89, of Lisbon Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 11, at Montello Manor in Lewiston, following a brief illness.
She was born in Augusta on May 29, 1928, a daughter of the late Burton and Harriett (Hawthorne) Marson. She was educated in Augusta schools and attended Cony High School. She was given the nickname “Chickie” by her twin sister and was known to most anyone as Chickie during her lifetime.
On April 11, 1953, she married John P. Gorey Jr., of Lisbon Falls, at St. Mary’s Church in Augusta. She was employed as a bookkeeper at D.W. Adams Department Store for several years and at Jay Brush in Brunswick, from where she would retire.
Chickie possessed an outgoing personality and made friends easily. She was also a very devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed reading, knitting and making many beautiful afghans for her family. She was an excellent seamstress and cook, and her peanut butter fudge was a special treat over the Christmas holiday season. Her baking skills were second to none. Her grandchildren also looked forward to her unique homemade Christmas popcorn bags every year. She was very creative and meticulous in all of her many talents.
She is survived by her son, Wayne A. Gorey, and his wife, Phyllis, of Lisbon Falls; her two grandchildren, Jon Higgins and his wife, Kathy, of Cumberland, and Jessica Mayol and her husband, Benjamin, of Westbrook; and her five great-grandchildren, Piper, Lily and Greta Higgins, as well as Hannah and Sadie Mayol. She also leaves behind her two sisters, Dorothy Damon, of Hallowell, and her twin sister, Evelyn E. Gaboury, of Augusta; along with several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husband, John, in 1983; and her four brothers, Robin, Preston and Richard Quimby, and Burton F. Marson Jr.
Condolences may be shared with her family at www.crosmanfuneralhome.com.
