EUSTIS — A Eustis home was totally destroyed by fire Sunday night, said Eustis fire Chief Rusty Fearon on Monday.
Owners of the 55 Eustis Village home, Patricia and David Ashley, escaped with their dogs but lost one pet bird in the late evening fire, he said.
The cause is still under investigation but the structure was a total loss, Fearon said. When about eight Eustis firefighters arrived the fire was in the back of the home. Firefighters ended up pretty much tearing down the home to extinguish the fire, he said.
Firefighters were called to the single-family home at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday and left the scene at 4:15 a.m. Monday.
Mutual aid from Carrabassett Valley, Kingfield and Rangeley provided a total of about 25 firefighters at the scene located six miles north of Stratton.
NorthStar ambulance attendants were also at the fire, he said.
