Evelyn L. Harriman


AUBURN – Evelyn L. Harriman, 90, of Schooner Estates, formerly of Mechanic Falls, died Saturday evening, Jan. 27, at Clover Health Care Center.

She was born in Westbrook, Nov. 13, 1915, the daughter of Kenneth and Inez Berry Purington.

She attended school in Mechanic Falls and was a homemaker all of her life. Over the years, she had been a caregiver to both the older and younger members of the family.

She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Mechanic Falls and the Womens Guild. She was very skilled with her hands, hooking rugs and making afghans.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking.

On July 14, 1935 she married Leonard Harriman. He died on July 30, 2002.

Survivors include a son, John and his wife, Dorothy, of Westbrook; three daughters, Joanne Brown of Lewiston, Gloria and Brian French of Mechanic Falls, and Carolyn Coady of South Paris; three sisters, Marguerite Storer of Ormond Beach, Fla., Katherine Atherton of Windham, and Beverly Doucette of Auburn; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Barbara Vachon, and Dorothy Pray; and three brothers, Alfred, Milton, and Willard Purington.
