1933 – 2014
WEST PARIS — Evelyn M. Canwell, 81, formerly of Spruce Street in Rumford, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Ledgeview Living Center, following a brief illness.
She was born in Dixfield on April 3, 1933, a daughter of Arthur D. and Elva S. (Cummings) Pingree. Evelyn was educated in Mexico schools and was a graduate of Mexico High School.
She was employed as a cafeteria aide at Meroby School in Mexico for 30 years.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, knitting, sewing, cooking and anything Elvis.
She also enjoyed taking senior citizen trips and her Tuesday visits to McDonald’s.
Surviving are her children, Pamela Rideout of Rumford and Wayne Canwell and wife, Bernadette, of Peru; a sister, Evangeline Mathiau, of Connecticut; a very special sister-in-law, Jean Nasatowicz; three grandchildren, Sarah Rideout and companion, Jon Burnette, Dan Dibenedetto and wife, Catherine, and Jennifer Voter and husband, Sal; five great-grandchildren, Ava, Levi, Maddalena, Dominic and Dylan; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Glendon Canwell; a brother, Sherwood Pingree; a sister-in-law, Irene Pingree; and a brother-in-law, Joseph Nasatowicz.
