Falcons, Cayer cut down Bulldogs, 11-0


RUMFORD – Chris Cayer pitched five perfect innings as Mountain Valley pounded Hall-Dale 11-0 in an MVC baseball tilt Thursday.

Cayer helped himself at the plate with three hits and three RBIs, and struck out five batters to improve to 2-0. Corey Devoe added three hits and a pair of RBIs, and Matt Marr hit a single and double for two RBIs for the undefeated Falcons (5-0)

James Bell dropped to 1-1 with the loss on the mound for the Bulldogs (3-3).

Richmond 5, Buckfield 3

BUCKFIELD – Sam Carter and Kyle Lancaster combined for five hits and one RBI to lead Richmond to a 5-3 victory over Buckfield in EWC baseball action Thursday.

Carter led the Bobcats (4-1) with an RBI double. Lancaster also picked up the mound win after six innings of work.

The Bucks (5-1) were paced by Justin Dodge and Josh Emery with two hits apiece. Jamie Henderson went the distance and was credited with the loss.

Fryeburg 5, G-NG 3

FRYEBURG – Aaron Kasprak allowed three hits and struck out nine to lead Fryeburg to a 5-3 victory over Gray-New Gloucester in a WMC baseball matchup Thursday.

Kasprak had no walks while recording his second win of the season. The Raiders (3-4) took advantage of multiple fielding errors by Gray to put runs on the board.

The Patriots were paced by Ryan Welch with two hits, while Peter Clement suffered the loss.

Oxford Hills 3, Gardiner 2

SOUTH PARIS – Ethan Sutton and Chris Jennings each had an RBI in the fifth inning to help lead Oxford Hills to a 3-2 win over Gardiner in baseball action.

Ryan Yates contributed a triple and a single for the Vikings (3-3).

The Tigers (4-2) scored in the sixth off an RBI single by Kyle Stilphen. Stilphen later scored during a double play.

Oak Hill 13, MCI 3

WALES – Mike Eaton collected four singles and three RBIs as Oak Hill rolled to a 13-3 win over MCI in baseball.

Josh Jillson improved to 2-0 on the mound despite issuing eight walks in four innings, giving up only three hits and striking out nine. Brian Bisson had three hits and four RBIs for the Raiders (3-3), and Devan Eaton added a pair of hits and batted in two more runs.

Adam Connors took the loss for the Huskies (2-4), pitching into the second before being lifted for Travis Saucier.

Jay 11, Wiscassett 5

JAY – Mike Holland had a pair of hits, including a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning, and drove in three runs in Jay’s 11-5 victory over Wiscassett to remain undefeated.

Holland also smacked a two-run single as the Tigers (7-0) erased a 3-0 deficit with five runs in the first frame. Mike Nemy (2-0) pitched five innings for the win, and Nemy and Zane Armandi each had two hits for Jay.

Losing pitcher Ben Matzell had three hits in the game for the Redskins (1-5).

Monmouth 5, Carrabec 1

MONMOUTH – Ricky Pelletier hit a two-run single in the bottom of the first to give Monmouth a 2-0 lead, as Monmouth held on for a 5-1 victory over Carrabec in MVC baseball.

Nate Armstrong made the lead stand up with a dominant performance on the mound for the pitching victory, sitting down 10 batters on strikes in a two-hitter. Ronnie Hobson had a pair of hits and scored two runs for Monmouth (3-1).

Sam Shaw took the loss for the Cobras (0-4).


Waynflete 11, St. Dom’s 10

PORTLAND – Will Paradis scored four goals and added an assist to lead Waynflete to a narrow 11-10 victory over St. Dom’s in a boys’ lacrosse matchup Thursday.

Spencer Libby chipped in for Waynflete (2-3) with three goals, while single tallies by David Cutler, T.C. Haffenreffer, Ned Donovan and Luke Cuminski completed the scoring. Kevin Frantzen made 14 saves in net to notch the win.

The Saints (2-1) were paced by Ben Adams with the two goals and one assist.

Tavian MacKinnon, Cam McKee and Andrew Gilbert also contributed with two goals each, while Tyler Martin also scored to round out the final tally.

Brian Ksabian handled netkeeping duties, turning aside 14 shots in the contest.
