FARMINGTON — Police are investigating an attempted burglary Tuesday morning at a residence on Lamkin Lane, which is off Franklin Avenue.

A man reported a burglary in progress at 5:13 a.m. after a window was broken on his mobile home, police Chief Jack Peck said in a release. The homeowner reported that a man was standing on his porch and demanding entry, Peck said.

Farmington police officers Darin Gilbert and Michael Raymond arrived within three minutes, but the man had already fled in a small car with a loud exhaust, Peck said. The officers observed a substantial amount of blood under and on the window that was broken, Peck said. A search of the area revealed no further evidence.

Officers went to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington and found a man who had gone to the emergency room with a lacerated hand, he said.

“The person denied being in the Lamkin Lane area,” Peck said.

The person volunteered a DNA sample, the chief said.

Blood from the scene and the DNA sample were sent to the Maine State Police crime lab for analysis, he said.
