Father-daughter duo at Oasis Wedsenday

The father-daughter team of Anthony and Una Shostak will present a program of Irish music played on uilleann pipes and fiddle at the Oasis of Music, Trinity Church, 247 Bates St., Lewiston, Wednesday, April 12, from 12:30-1 p.m..
Anthony is a longtime performer on the Irish pipes, which are geared more for indoor playing than their more well-know Scottish cousins.  Know as the uilleann pipes, the wind comes from bellows pumped by the arm, and blows through the chanter and drones, as well as through harmony-producing reeds known as regulators, in what amounts to a very full and grand sound.  Shostak is well-known in the area for his playing, solo and with the fondly remembered contradance band Wake the Neighbors.

Joining Shostak will be his 7-year-old daughter, Una, a student of Pam Weeks.  Una is already a veteran performer with her father, and has enthusiastically developed an impressive repertoire, which she delivers with aplomb.

Admission to the Oasis is free.  FMI: Call 344-3106.
