Festival features local poets


The 4th annual Terry Plunkett Maine Poetry Festival, including local poets, will take place Friday and Saturday at the University of Maine at Augusta.

The festival will feature Maine’s new poet laureate, Betsy Sholl, and 16 other Maine poets. There will be an opening reception, small Maine poetry presses, readings, panel discussions, open microphone performances, music and lunch.

Maine’s largest poetry festival will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Admission to the festival and on-site parking are free.

In addition to Sholl, featured poets include Henry Braun of Weld and Lee Sharkey of Farmington, as well as William Carpenter, Kala Ladenheim, Mark Melnicove, Kendall Merriam, Jay Davis, Jay Franzel, Ed Rielly, Ted Bookey, Gary Lawless, Steve Petroff, Dawn Potter, L.R. Berger, Martin Steingesser and Stuart Kestenbaum.
