Fiddle-icious to perform

BETHEL – Fiddle-icious will perform a spring concert Saturday, April 22, at Crescent Park Elementary School, courtesy of the Mahoosuc Arts Council.

Fiddle-icious is a fiddle orchestra comprised of fiddlers and other musicians playing piano, guitar, banjo, flute, tin whistle, accordion, cello, viola, mandolin, tuba and upright bass.

The groups’ music features tunes passed on from Scottish, Irish, Quebecois and Acadian ancestors and includes reels, jigs, aires, marches, hornpipes, waltzes, step-dancing, and singing.

Fiddle-icious is comprised of musicians from 30 Maine towns. They include students, professionals and retirees. The concert will include about 60 of the group’s musicians.

Fiddle-icious evolved out of a monthly fiddle workshop led by Don Roy of Gorham. He and his wife, Cindy, grew up in French Canadian families where music was an integral part of their lives.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert are $8 for adults, $4 for seniors and students. Tickets will be available at the door or can be reserved by calling (207) 824-3575.

A second concert is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at the Irish Heritage Center in Portland. Tickets are $10 general admission, $7 seniors and students. Tickets will be available at the door, and at Bull Moose music stores.
