Film fest focuses on deaf


PORTLAND – The University of Southern Maine linguistics department and the American Sign Language Club will present the 4th annual Maine Deaf Film Festival from 1 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Luther Bonney Auditorium.

The festival showcases short and feature-length films as well as discussions.

The films presented focused on the deaf experience, made by filmmakers of the international deaf community.

All told, about 25 films will be shown. Genres and styles include documentary, animation, romance, comedy and drama.

Advance tickets for full day: $12, $6 for seniors and children under 16. For half day: $6, $3 for seniors and children under 16. Tickets sold at the door: $15, full day; $8, half day, with reduced rates for seniors and children under 16.
