LEWISTON — Centre Stage Ensemble from Lewiston High School holds its final performance of the musical “Oliver,” at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at the Lewiston Middle School auditorium, 75 Central Ave.
The musical is based on the classic Charles Dickens novel “Oliver Twist,” and begins when young Oliver (Scott Venable, Martel Elementary) is kicked out of the orphanage for his outlandish desire for more food; wild adventures ensue. Mr. Bumble and Widow Corney (Chris Belanger and Marina Belanger) sell Oliver to the Sowerberries (David Carvalho and Rebecca Spilecki), where he finds himself caught in the twists and tangles of the Sowerberries’ occupation, which is to die for…literally.
The funeral shop owners find that Oliver is unfit to work, however, when he answers back and then runs away. Now all alone in the great city of London, Oliver becomes acquainted with a spunky young pickpocket known as the Artful Dodger (Zan Wong). Dodger then brings Oliver back to his lodgings with other young pickpockets, run by an old man named Fagin (Scott Gagne). The whole whirlwind begins when Oliver enters their risky, adventurous world and meets exciting new characters such as Bill Sykes (Ryan Dubois), Nancy (Brittany Martin), Dr. Brownlow (Nate Chaloux), Dr. Grimwig (Brandon Chaloux), and many more.
Tickets, which may be be purchased at the door, are $8 for adults and $5 dollars for students and seniors. The box office will open at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments are available before the show and at intermission.
