Finance Commissioner accepts position with UMF

The governor’s office announced today that Finance Commissioner Ryan Low is leaving his position in early July.

Low has accepted a position as the Interim Vice President for Administration at University of Maine Farmington. 

“Ryan has done an incredible job during one of the most difficult economic times in a generation,” Governor Baldacci said in a press release. “His integrity and depth of knowledge about State government have earned him the trust and respect of Democrats and Republicans alike. He is one of my closest advisers, and his patience and wisdom will be missed.”

In addition to running the Department of Administrative and Financial Services, which includes oversight of state facilities, Human Resources, Information Technology and Maine Revenue Services, Low was also the state’s lead on implementing The American Recovery Act.

Low was sworn is as commissioner in September 2008 after serving for almost two years as the governor’s deputy chief of staff.  He has also served as state budget officer and associate commissioner within the Department of Administrative and Financial Services.

According to the release, Low will be responsible for all budgetary matters and business affairs  and will serve as major advisory to the president at the UMF. His appointment is subject to approval by the University of Maine System Board of Trustees.

Governor Baldacci said he will name an acting commissioner later this spring.
