Fire causes significant damage to Otisfield home

OTISFIELD — The second structure fire in a month sent neighboring fire crews to Route 121 where fire caused significant damage to a two-story log home Monday night.

Crews from Otisfield, Oxford, Norway, Paris and Harrison, as well as Pace Ambulance, were called to a home at 353 Route 121 around 6:30 p.m.

There, tankers pumped water down the long, sloping driveway beyond a sign that read, “Grover’s Belgians.”

Otisfield Fire Department Deputy Chief Kyle Jordan said the homeowner was home at the time the fire broke out.

As with the fire in November at 624 Route 121 just up the road, water had to be pumped from down the road near the fire station and delivered to the residence just past Cobb Hill Road.

“Crews went in — knocked down the fire as quickly and efficiently as we could and there were no injuries,” Jordan said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., one lane of traffic was opened to local residents as crews began breaking down equipment.

Sand had to be brought in for trucks that went down the long driveway to the residence.
