EUSTIS – A Lewiston man lost his camp to fire Tuesday morning, Assistant Fire Chief Sid Shane said. Nobody was injured.

The cause of the fire is unknown, Shane said. Owner Michael LeBlanc of Lewiston and his family had spent the weekend there, but had left by the time the blaze started.

When Eustis firefighters arrived at the camp, atop a hill off the Kerns Development off Route 27, the camp was almost fully engulfed in flames, Shane said.

“We had a hard job getting the hoses to it,” he said. “The wind didn’t really help too much.”

It took firefighters from Eustis, Rangeley, Carrabassett Valley, Kingfield and Farmington hours to get the blaze under control, he said. In the end, they had to use an excavator to get the camp’s steel roof off.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this point, Shane said. Owner Michael LeBlanc of Lewiston and his family had spent the weekend there, but had left by the time the blaze started.
