Fire-suppressant activated at Cumberland Farms in Auburn – again

For the second time in nine days,  a fire-suppressant system was activated Tuesday morning and rained white powder onto gas pumps and cars at Cumberland Farms in Auburn.

Neighbors of the gas station said that white powder covering the parking lot is a regular occurrence. “This has happened at least four times that I know about,” said Nola Comingore, owner of Goin’ Postal across the street from Cumberland Farms. Comingore said she watched as Auburn firefighters hosed off cars that had been covered with the powder.

“What a mess. At least it did not blow this way,” said a man who was helping out at Godin’s Auto Sales. The man said the fire-suppressant system malfunctions on a regular basis. “It’s too bad. They are losing a lot of business.”
