First Friday features art at six sites


On Aug. 3, arts and historical exhibits will be featured in six locations throughout Norway and South Paris as part of the First Friday circuit.

The Western Maine Art Group will open “The 2007 Members Exhibit and Sale” at the arts center, with a wine and refreshment reception, open to the public, from 5 to 8 p.m. A range of styles from abstract to realism will be represented in works of Western Maine Art Group members Emmy Andersson, Joan Bellucci, Melody Bonnema, Cynthia Burmeister, Shirley Libby Davis, Nancy Engdahl, Janis Hutchins, Aranka Matolcsy, Ellen O’Neil, Carol Rice, Duncan Slade, Barbara Traficonte, Ben Tucker and Sue West.

Also as part of the First Friday circuit: The Commons Art Collective will open “The Summer Group Show” with a reception from 7 to 9 p.m. at 443 Main St., Norway. The Frost Farm Gallery will feature the photography of Tere Porter, opening with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. at 272 Pikes Hill Road, Norway. The McLaughlin Garden will open “Art in the Barn,” featuring an eclectic collection of abstract and progressive art, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. at 97 Main St., South Paris. The Norway Memorial Library will hold a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring the work and history of Norway artist and photographer Minnie Libby at 258 Main St., Norway. The Painted Mermaid Gallery will open a photography exhibit “Thru the Eye of the Lens,” with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at 6 Briggs Ave., South Paris.
