Fisher Cats cut Dogs loose


MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) – Davis Romero scattered five hits over six innings and Chip Cannon homered to lead the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to a 3-0 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs on Friday.

Romero struck out six and walked four, yielding to Jason Arnold and Tracy Thorpe, who combined for three innings of perfect relief, as the Fisher Cats (14-20) won their fifth straight outing. It was the third straight defeat for Portland (19-14).

Chris Smith took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits over seven innings, striking out four. Thorpe earned his third save with two strikeouts in the ninth.

Cannon belted his sixth of the season to lead off the New Hampshire second for a 1-0 lead. The Fisher Cats tacked on two more in the third aided by two Portland errors.
