Fishermen duck as bullets fly past

TROY, N.H. (AP) – Police say an off-duty officer and his father ended up dodging bullets while fishing this week.

Chief Howard Sheats says a 64-year-old Swanzey man went into the woods on Wednesday to try out a new handgun. He said the man was well into the woods, but apparently didn’t check things out before squeezing off 18 shots.

The officer and his father were fishing at a stream when bullets zipped past them. They took cover and were not hurt.

No arrests have been made, Sheats said. He declined further comment until police finish their investigation.
