Flaherty becomes Bowdoin’s all-time leading scorer


LEWISTON – Eileen Flaherty had a record-setting night in leading Bowdoin to a 58-50 win over Bates in women’s basketball Tuesday.

The Bowdoin senior forward scored 17 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Her first-half lay up vaulted her past Laura Schultz as the school’s all-time leading scorer.

Val Beckwith led the way for Bates with 11 points.

UMA 73, CMCC 70

AUBURN – The University of Maine at Augusta women’s basketball team fought back from a six-point deficit Tuesday evening to edge Central Maine Community College, 73-70.

Former Oxford Hills standout Tiffany Seams paced the Mustangs with a game-high 38 points, while Kerri Harris popped in 15 and Jacki Moors added 10.

Men’s basketball

CMCC 93, UMA 75

AUBURN – Kaleb Violette drained 34 points Tuesday evening to lead Central Maine Community College to a 93-75 victory over the University of Maine at Augusta.

Matt Wheelock chipped in for the Mustangs (16-8) with 19 points while Nate Damm added 13. CMCC had five players in double digits, including Jon Gilson who lit the boards with 11 points and Dave Labonte with 10.

UMA was paced by Deon Cheers with 24 points.

Women’s basketball

UNE 49, Gordon 48


BIDDEFORD – Sara Pelkey scored a game-high 19 points, including the game-winning free throw with three seconds remaining, to give the University of New England women’s basketball team a 49-48 victory over Gordon College on Tuesday evening.

The Nor’easters (8-10) took a three-point advantage when Sheena Weston of Dixfield drove for a lay-up with 48 seconds left. Gordon’s Amy Dodd answered with a 3-pointer.

Pelkey was 9-of-13 from the floor and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds for the Nor’easters, who overcame 25 percent shooting in the second half and 26 turnovers for the game. Marissa Hesketh ended with 12 points for UNE.
